Breeding
systems
Generally, the self-pollinated plants are homozygous and do
not show any depletion in quality due to inbreeding. Cross pollinated, crops on
the other hand, are highly heterozygous. So, the breeding systems are different
for the two types of plants. The self-pollinated crops are protected from any
contamination from foreign pollen grain naturally and are stable. While the
Cross pollinated plants have to be protected from any contamination from
foreign pollen grain.
